EC & CO is recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced and commercially minded Product Development Manager to join a dynamic and fast-paced business based in Melbourne; focused on delivering high-quality consumer products to the Australian and New Zealand retail and ecommerce markets.
This is an end-to-end product development role, where you’ll lead the creation and delivery of innovative new products across multiple categories, working closely with internal teams and offshore suppliers to ensure products are market-ready, compliant, and aligned with brand strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Brand & Product Strategy Execution
- Collaborate with Brand Portfolio teams to understand product, category and brand requirements
- Develop detailed product briefs including features, pricing, materials, packaging, and lead times
- Conduct market and competitor research to support product decision-making
- Maintain project schedules and ensure product roadmaps are on track
Sourcing & Product Development
- Identify and manage supplier relationships across multiple categories
- Work with offshore partners to prototype, test and commercialise products
- Ensure products meet strict compliance and quality standards
- Negotiate pricing, MOQs, and lead times to align with business needs
- Participate in trade shows or factory visits as needed
Stakeholder Communication
- Act as the key liaison for all internal teams and external partners during the product development cycle
- Manage and maintain communication on product specifications, timelines, and updates
- Provide support to Sales and Brand teams for retailer presentations and product briefings
- Oversee all documentation including user manuals, tech specs, and compliance reports
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in product development, sourcing, or category management
- Background in consumer goods, retail, or FMCG highly regarded
- Experience managing offshore suppliers or factory partners
- Strong project management and communication skills
- Ability to balance commercial objectives with product quality and compliance
- A proactive, detail-oriented mindset and ability to work to deadlines
